Global warming is existed since the Industrial Revolution about 240 years ago. Till this date, the effects of global warming are becoming more frequent and it is affecting people in major parts of the world. Here are some facts on global warming that you should take note.
What is global warming?
A fact on global warming is that not many people know what it is. Global warming actually means the growth in the temperatures of the Earth’s land, oceans and atmosphere. The temperature of the earth’s surface is about 59F and it has increased by 1F for the past years. It is estimated that by the year 2100, the temperature change will increase from about 2.5F to 10F. With this drastic increase in temperatures, glaciers and ice caps will melt in the iced regions.
What causes global warming?
Generally, global warming is caused by human activities and practices. Due to the growth in the industry sector and ignorant environmental practices, we have indirectly caused the increase in global temperatures by increasing the green house effects. Besides that, uncontrolled deforestation also contributes to the effects of global warming. As more fossil fuels are obtained and used, green house gasses are being released into the atmosphere causing the atmosphere to be hotter.
The impact of global warming and greenhouse effects
Global warming and the greenhouse effect are two different things. The greenhouse effect means a process that happens in the Earth’s atmosphere and if the process is interrupted, then it will lead to global warming. The primary gasses that are on the Earth’s atmosphere are carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and water vapor.
As heat from the sun reach the earth, the heat is reflected back to the atmosphere where these gases will store the heart and hold it there to warm the planet. Without this process, plants and living creatures are unable to survive and grow. The complications only occur when these gases multiply thus storing too much heat which warms the Earth’s atmosphere.
With the increase in Earth’s temperature, sea levels are estimated to increase from 4 inches to about 40 inches by the end of century – a major fact on global warming. Besides that, water on the Earth’s surface will be absorbed at a fast speed, thus leaving the lands unsuitable for agricultural practices. In addition, global warming can cause El Nino to happen due to the changes in average temperature of the planet. It’s one of the less known facts on global warming.
